UWA Softball Splits at West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga. – West Alabama pounded out 13 hits and scored six runs in the sixth inning to notch an 11-2 win in the second game and earn a Gulf South Conference doubleheader split with West Georgia Wednesday at University Field. The Wolves won the first game, 4-3, on a seventh-inning, walk-off solo home run by Haley Richards.
 
Ranked 19th in the country, West Alabama carries an 11-4 record into a Saturday doubleheader against top-ranked Valdosta State. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at the UWA Softball Complex. West Georgia dropped to 8-9 with the split.
 
Kelsey Cooper led UWA hitters in the nightcap, driving in five runs on three hits. Whitney Brown and Michal Robertson each had four hits in the two games combined for the Tigers. Rebecca Schick had two hits and drove in three runs in the second game, while Brooklyn Phillips had three hits in the opener.
 
Sarah Ray (6-1) scattered six hits and allowed one earned run for the UWA win in the second game, while Katie Shultes (4-5) took the loss. Megan Roberts (4-4) was the UWG winner in the opening game and Jessica Brock (2-3) absorbed the loss.
