UWA Softball Sweeps Christian Brothers

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Four West Alabama pitchers made just two extra base hits and six runs stand up as the Tigers defeated Christian Brothers, 3-0 and 3-1, in a Gulf South Conference doubleheader Saturday at the UWA Softball Complex.
 
The sweep improves West Alabama to 25-16 overall and 12-14 in the Gulf South Conference. The Tigers are host to Delta State for a pair of games Sunday. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. Christian Brothers dipped to 11-22 and 7-19.
 
Sarah Ray (15-6) went the distance for the win in the first game shutting out the Lady Bucs on two hits while striking out five. Jessica Brock (5-8) picked up the win the in the second game in relief of starter Ashley Osier. Brock allowed two hits and struck out three in three innings. Taylor Tucker worked a scoreless seventh inning in the nightcap for her sixth save.
 
Whitney Brown's ninth home run of the season, a two-run shot over the left field wall, put the game away for the Tigers in the sixth inning of the opener. Tamara Vickers drove in the Tigers' other run with a single in the second inning.
 
Anna Shartzer doubled in a run and Stephanie Shoup singled one in to provide the UWA winning margin in the second game.
