Tigers Drop Final Homestand to UWF

Box Score

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Florida's Max St. Hilaire homered in the top of the fifth inning and added two more RBI in the top of the sixth to lead the Argonauts to a 3-1 victory of West Alabama on a drizzly Sunday afternoon. The victory completes a series sweep for West Florida after the game was called in the eighth inning due to inclement weather.

“I thought it was overall a well-played game,” said UWA head coach Gary Rundles. “Unfortunately they got the hits when they needed to and we didn't. It was a well-played game we just came on the wrong side.”

For West Alabama, the game featured 10 seniors in their final regular season game as Tigers.

“It's always a bitter sweet moment on senior day,” said Rundles. “We are excited for the seniors and their future, but we hate to lose them. It's been an honor and privilege to be their coach.”

West Alabama drops to a seven game losing streak to end the regular season at 21-28; 13-13 in Gulf South Conference action. West Florida improves to 34-10 on the season; 18-8 in conference.

Bobby Parker (5-2) gave up one run through six innings to take the win.  Senior Nick Bolleter (4-4) gave up his first homerun of the season in the top of the fifth and two runs in the top of the six to pick up the loss.  Bolleter totaled seven strikeouts in his final home game as a Tiger.
St. Hilaire finished 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI.  Senior Josh Podoris lead the Tigers on offense finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Both teams will meet again in game one of the GSC tournament on Thursday in Chattanooga, Tenn. The game is set for 10 a.m. at AT&T field.
“We now start a new season going into the conference tournament,” said Rundles. “Everyone will start off back at 0-0. We are going to have to pitch well and play solid defense and get the bats swinging and if we do that then we have a good chance of winning.”
