Box Score 2 LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Shorter pitchers Christina Ezell and Maddie Bray limited West Alabama to just four hits in a Gulf South Conference softball doubleheader sweep of the Tigers Sunday at the UWA Softball Complex. Shorter won the first game, 2-0, and took the second, 7-1.
UWA's record dipped to 23-14 overall and 10-12 in GSC play. Shorter improved to 31-7 and 17-5. The Tigers play next at Valdosta State on Saturday. First pitch for the doubleheader is noon central time.
Ezell (13-1) allowed just a pair of singles, struck out three and walked three while going the distance for the win in the first game. Bray (10-3) struck out four, allowed one earned run and walked one over seven innings in the second game.
Sarah Ray (14-5) was a hard-luck loser for UWA in the opener, allowing two runs and scattering five hits.
Jessica Brock (4-7) allowed three runs on four hits in the first inning to take the loss in the nightcap. Three Tiger pitchers gave up 12 hits in the second game.
Anna Shartzer doubled in the second game for UWA's only extra base hit of the doubleheader. Bre Johnson collected three hits, including her ninth home run of the season, and drove in four runs to pace the Lady Hawks offense. Amanda Dailey and Whitney Hood also had three this for Shorter.
