Box Score 3 SOUTHHAVEN , Miss. – West Alabama wedged a victory over West Georgia between losses to West Florida and Delta State, eliminating the Tigers from the Gulf South Conference Softball Tournament Saturday at the Greenbrook Softball Complex.
UWA opened the day with a 5-4 loss to West Florida, beat West Georgia, 12-5, and then was eliminated by Delta State, 5-3, in the final game of the day.
The Tigers are 30-18 and now must wait on Monday morning's NCAA Division II Selection Show to find out if their postseason will continue next weekend in the South Regional.
After a pair of UWA errors and a wild pitch allowed West Florida to take a 2-0 lead in the opener, Tiger shortstop
Michal Robertson hit her ninth home run, a three-run blast, to give West Alabama a 3-2 lead after three innings.
After tying the game in the fifth inning, Kasey Buckley doubled in two runs in the sixth to put the Argonauts back in the lead, 5-3. UWA's
Kelsey Cooper drove in
Whitney Brown in the sixth inning to cut the lead to the final margin.
Brown hit a pair of homers, her 10
th and 11
th of the season, and drove in six runs against UWG.
Stephanie Shoup hit her sixth home run, while
Anna Shartzer, Shoup and Robertson each had three of UWA's 16 hits in the win over the Wolves.
Delta State scratched and clawed its way to a 3-0 lead until Shoup hit her second home run of the day, seventh of the year, to draw the Tigers to within two runs in the fourth inning. DSU stretched the lead to 5-2 in the seventh before Shartzer drove in
Scarlett Wright in the bottom of the frame for the final margin.
Jessica Brock (6-8) earned the UWA pitching win in relief of
Ashley Osier against West Georgia. Sarah Ray (17-7) took the UWA loss against West Florida, while
Skylar Davis (0-3) took the loss to Delta State.
