Box Score 2 HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – West Alabama opened the 2014 Charger Chillout with a 3-2 win over St. Joseph's in game one, but fell 6-2 to No. 15 North Georgia in game two.
Â
West Alabama moves to 3-3 overall. St. Joseph's fell to Northwood 2-7 in its first game of the tournament to drop to 0-2. North Georgia dropped its first game to West Georgia 10-9 to move to 4-2. Â
""In both games we had great pitching," UWA head coachÂ
Will Atkinson said. "
Jessica Brock and
Sarah Ray-Averett came out, commanded the strike zone and did well.
Â
"In the first game, we were fortunate enough to get the hits when we needed it and pushed a couple of runs across. In the second game, we had 10 runners left on base in the first six innings. The seventh inning was the only inning that we did not leave a runner stranded. We just didn't get that timely hit. We played four really good innings of softball and had great starting pitching, but our bull pen kind of let us down and our offense didn't come through with a big clutch hit. North Georgia is a good ball club. They have some great coaches and players."
Â
The Tigers scored three runs in the top of the third against St. Joseph led by
