Tigers Defeat Georgia Regents; Fall to Bellarmine in Charger Chillout

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – West Alabama defeated Georgia Regents 8-5, but fell to Bellarmine 5-0 in day two of the 2014 Charger Chillout.
 
West Alabama moves to 4-4 overall. Georgia Regents fell to North Alabama 7-0 in its second game of the day to drop to 1-7. Bellarmine defeated Stillman 7-5 in its first game of day two to improve to 4-3. 

Anna Shartzer led the Tigers at the plate against the Panthers in the first game. She totaled for runs, including a two run homer in the bottom of the second inning to put UWA up 4-2. She finished 4-for-4 at the plate.
 
Rebecca Shick went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, while Jordyn Whiddon recorded a run and an RBI to end 2-for-3. Taylor Miller recorded two runs and 1-for-2 at the plate.
 
Georgia Regents' Mallory Ferguson and Brooke Stephens put the Panthers up 2-0 in the top of the first inning with one RBI each. Ashley Benton doubled and Stephens stole home in the top of the third to lead their team to three more runs.
 
Benton and Stephens each finished 2-for-3 at the plate.
 
Sarah Ray-Averett (3-0) entered the circle in the top of the fourth inning to relieve Alli Hall and pick up the win against Georgia Regents. She closed out the game, allowing three hits and no runs. Julia Banks (0-1) entered in the second inning, but gave up three earned runs through s four and a half innings to take the loss.
 
In game two, Erica Knollman led the Knights with two RBI, including a homerun in the top of the seventh inning. Ally Foster scored first in the top of the first to put Bellarmine up 1-0. Foster ended 1-for-3 with another run in the fourth, while Knollman went 2-for-3.

Foster (1-0) also pitched through all seven innings, striking out eight batters and allowing three hits to get the win.  Skylar Davis (1-1)  took the loss in the second game, giving up three earned runs.   
 
The Tigers will close out the Charger Chillout against Maryville and No. 7 Indianapolis tomorrow. UWA is slated to take on Maryville at 11 a.m. followed with Indianapolis at 1 p.m. at Metro Kiwanis Sportsplex.
