Brown and Schick Lead UWA to Season High; Tigers Split with Tuskegee

TUSKEGEE, Ala. –Whitney Brown and Rebecca Schick lead West Alabama to season high of 15 runs batted in in game one to split a double header with Tuskegee at the TU Softball field on Tuesday. UWA won game one, 15-4 and fell 8-1 in game two.
 
West Alabama moved to 15-13 overall, while Tuskegee moved to 6-5.
 
The Tiger offense totaled 11 hits, nine walks and had only two strikeouts in game one. On defense, they stranded 10 Tuskegee runners on eight hits.
 
Five hits came in the top of the first with Whitney Brown putting the Tigers on the board first with a grand slam. Rebecca Schick followed up with another homerun to give the Tigers a 5-0 lead.
 
Schick later tallied her own grand slam in the top of the second inning to put UWA up 9-0.Three more hits and two walks gave the Tigers six runs in the top of the fourth.
 
Schick ended 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs, while Brown finished game one 1-for-3 with two runs.
 
Tuskegee got on the board in the bottom of the second with three runs. Denavia Harrison added a home run in the bottom of the fourth for her only hit of the game.
 
Alli Hall (2-1) pitched through three innings, entering in the third. She struck out three batters and allowed one earned run on four hits to get the win. Acey Spence (0-2) entered in the second and pitched through three to take the loss. She gave up six earned runs on five hits and walked five batters.
 
In game two, UWA took the first lead in the top of the first with a double by Jordyn Whiddon. Tuskegee answered with a trio of runs in the third and fourth innings and two runs in the sixth.
 
Cari Driver led Tuskegee with two runs, two RBI and 2-for-4 at the plate. Whiddon led UWA, batting 2-for-3.
 
Latifah Kelly (4-1) pitched the complete second game, striking out seven batters and allowing four hits to get the win. Skylar Davis (2-3) allowed four runs on three hits through the first three innings to pick up the loss.
 
The Tigers will return to Gulf South Conference action as they host Valdosta State in a three game series, beginning with a double header on Saturday. Game one is set for 3 p.m. at the UWA Softball Complex.
