Tiger Softball to Honor Seven Seniors on Saturday

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama softball will wrap up its final home Gulf South Conference series with Senior Day in a doubleheader against Union beginning at 4 p.m. at the UWA Softball Complex on Saturday. The Tigers will honor seven seniors prior to game one.

With only three GSC series remaining before the conference tournament, UWA (21-17; 8-11) currently sits seventh in the league. The Bulldogs (22-18; 7-12) are in ninth place.

Four seniors to be honored, Anna Shartzer, Taylor Miller, Taylor Tucker and Rebecca Schick, have spent the last four seasons as Tigers. Sarah Ray-Averett, Skylar Davis and Whitney Brown will be completing their second seasons on the squad.

This class of veterans has led UWA to the NCAA Division II South Regional playoff's for three consecutive years, reaching the Super Regional in 2011 and earning South 2 runner-up in 2012.

In 2013, they defeated top-ranked Valdosta State 3-2 and spent five consecutive weeks ranked in the National Fast-pitch Coaches Association Top 25. In the last four years they have guided the Tigers to a 124-82 overall record.

The games, as well as the pregame ceremonies, will be streamed live on UWAathletics.com. (The link can be found HERE.) Fans can also receive in-game updates by following UWA athletics on Twitter (@UWAathletics).
