Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Nationally ranked No. 2 Alabama-Huntsville combined for 19 hits while keeping West Alabama to six to sweep the Gulf South Conference softball doubleheader at Charger Park on Saturday. The Chargers won game on 4-0 and game two 6-2.

UAH extended its win streak to five to improve 39-7 overall and 23-6 in the GSC. UWA dropped to 25-22 and 11-16.

"It was just a tough day at the yard for us," said UWA head coach Will Atkinson. "We didn't get the hits we needed. We had a chance to get back in it in game two, but they just kept us off balance with their pitching. We need to come up with hits down the stretch. UAH is a good ball club and are well coached, but we didn't do what we needed to do to win."

UAH strung together nine hits, while holding the Tigers to three in game one. Rebecca Schick tallied two hits for UWA; Lydia North marked the other.

Mallory McNeal gave the Chargers the new GSC record of most single season stolen bases in the second inning. She stole two more bases in the third and scored on a single by Brianna Sullivan to extend the lead to 2-0. The Chargers ended with seven stolen bases through both games, giving them 186 this season.

Mary Kelley put UAH on the board first with a ground out that sent Emily Glover to the plate. Macie Couey extended the lead to six, batting in two runs on a single in the sixth inning.

Whitney Toler (9-2) pitched through six innings, allowing two hits to get the win. Kimberly Jack picked up her seventh save of the season in the seventh inning. Alli Hall (4-3) took the loss pitching her first complete game of the season.

UAH got on the board first in the first inning of game two with a RBI single by Tyler Harrison and a RBI double by Kelley.

UWA responded with RBI singles from Miriah Chavez and Randa Simpson. Lydia North and Rebecca Schick each tallied the only Tiger runs.

Glover singled and stole two more bases on her way to score that gave the Chargers a 3-2 lead in the fourth. Glover extended the lead to two with a RBI single in the fifth.

Couie hit her 11th triple of the season and Kelley hit a sac fly in the sixth to give UAH two more runs.

Glover (12-2) took the win in the circle for game two. She allowed three hits and struck out three. Sarah Ray-Averett (8-9) allowed 10 hits and five earned runs to pick up the loss.

The Tigers will close their regular season with game three of the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.

"We have some real competitors on our team who want to go out on a positive note," Atkinson said. "I think we're just looking to gain some momentum going into the GSC tournament."
