Box Score 2 CULLMAN, Ala. –  West Alabama opponents posted sixhome runs to eliminate the Tigers from the first day of the Gulf South Conference tournament at Heritage Park on Thursday. UWA fell to North Alabama 4-1 in game one and West Georgia 8-2 in game two. 
The Tigers, who earned the sixth seed in the tournament, end their season 24-24 overall. The third seed North Alabama remains in the tournament 36-15 overall, after falling to Valdosta State 6-3 in the second round. West Georgia, who fell to Valdosta State 7-1 in round one will remain in the tournament as the seventh seed and 26-27 overall. 
"Our ball club didn't play bad today," said UWA head coach 
Will Atkinson. 
"We gave up some big hits, but I think what hurt us more than anything was the lack of timely hits which is something we've been able to do all season long. My hat's off to our opponents. They got the best of us today." 
UWA out-hit the Lions in round one 7-6, although it was UNA home runs that proved the difference. Libby Olinger hit a two run shot over centerfield in the bottom of the first that gave North Alabama a 2-0 lead. Harlie Barkley and Chloe Wolf added back-to-back home runs in the second inning. 
Miriah Chavez put the Tigers on the board in the top of the second with an RBI single down the left line to bring in 
Lydia North. The run marked North's 43rd of the season tying her with 
Anna Shartzer as the team leader. Chavez finished 2-for-2.   
Hillary Caprenter (18-4) pitched through all seven innings to pick up the win. 
Alli Hall (4-4) entered in the second inning in relief of 
Taylor Tucker, pitching through five innings allowing just two hits and no runs to take the loss.   
In game two, Jordan Corbin kicked started the West Georgia offense tallying four RBI's through the first five innings, including a two run home run in the third. Jessie Pruett and Amanda Voyles each homered in the sixth, with Voyles' bringing in three runs. 
Anna Shartzer scored on a UWG error in the bottom of the third inning to put the Tigers on the board. 
Whitney Brown drove in Shartzer again in the third. Shartzer ended 2-for-4, while 
Scarlett Wright went 2-for-2. 
Katie Shultes (4-4) got the win in the circle for game two. Courtney Gunby relieved Shultes in the fifth inning and allowed one hit through two innings to pick up her third save of the season. 
Sarah Ray-Averett (8-10) opened the first five innings, giving up five runs on six hits to take the loss.    
"There are a lot of positives moving forward," Atkinson said. "The dawn of a new day is just around the corner with some new players. I want to commend all of our seniors who've had great career's here. I hope as we move forward we will make them proud to be UWA Tigers."
