LIVINGSTON, Ala. — After leading the University of West Alabama softball team to a series win over Delta State, ShaKeria Washington was named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Washington becomes the first UWA softball player to earn the conference's Player of the Week honor this season and the first since Marissa Mitchell received the award on March 4, 2025.
In the Tigers' series victory over the Statesmen in Cleveland this past weekend, Washington posted an impressive .556 batting average with four home runs and nine RBIs. The catcher homered in all three games, including a standout performance in Game Two, where she recorded two home runs and five RBIs in West Alabama's 13-5 win.
Following her dominant weekend at the plate, the junior is now batting .273 on the season, along with five home runs and 18 RBIs.
Washington will advance to the National Player of the Week ballot, with the winner set to be announced later this week.
