Lions Sweep Tigers in Three Sets

FLORENCE, Ala. – North Alabama swept West Alabama in three sets, 25-13, 25-13 and 25-22 in Gulf South Conference women's volleyball action at Flowers Hall Tuesday.

UNA improves to 15-4 overall and 9-2 in the GSC, while the Tigers fall to 7-11 and 5-6.

The Lions combined to hit .270 attack percentage and held UWA to .073. Jessica Austin led North Alabama with 11 kills, finishing with .391. Peyton Lang led the defense with 16 digs, followed by Andrea De Leon with 13 and Ashtyn Kapovich with 11.

Briana Sandifer posted eight kills for West Alabama, while Callie Murphy added another double-double with 11 digs and 12 assists.

Austin, De Leon and Natasha Fomina led the Lions' defense at the net with one solo block each. Morgan Ray and Taylin McCarver each assisted on the Tigers' lone block.

"Tonight was a tough loss," said UWA head coach Jordan Lay. "UNA came out red hot and caught us on our heels a bit. The girls did do a heck of a job battling back in the third set. Though we didn't come out with the win, we've built some momentum for ourselves going into this weekend's crossover."

The Tigers return to action in the West Georgia Crossover Tournament hosted by the University of West Georgia beginning on Friday. UWA will take on Nova Southeastern at 10 a.m. followed with Lynn University at 4:45 p.m. in Carrollton, Ga.
