HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama Huntsville's Anna Claire Johnson led the Chargers to a 3-1 victory over West Alabama with 15 kills in Gulf South Conference volleyball action at Spragins Hall on Tuesday.
The win lifts UAH to 16-8 overall and 7-5 in the GSC. The Tigers fall to 7-15 and 5-6. UWA responded from losing set one 25-15, to take set two 25-18. The Chargers won set three 25-15 and set four 25-14.
Attack errors set West Alabama back as the team combined with 28, while UAH totaled 18. Despite the errors,
Morgan Ray totaled 12 kills with a .273 attack percentage.
Shanna Witt followed with 10 kills, hitting .167. As a team, the Tigers hit .084 throughout the match.
Johnson's .211 attack percentage led the Chargers to finish with .254. Anna LeDuc followed Johnson with 11 kills, followed by Haley Snyder and Rachel Brugman with nine each. Brugman hit .533 with 15 attempts.
The Tigers out-blocked UAH 8-5.
Jaime Lancellot led with three assists and two solo blocks, while
Liz Woodard added two assists. Vic Collins led the team with 15 digs.
Three Chargers posted double-digit dig numbers, led by Haley Hop with 17. Kirsten Giles and Alexis Deal each finished with 11.
West Alabama women's volleyball will return home to take on Valdosta State on Friday. The match is set for 6 p.m. in Pruitt Hall.
