Tiger Women’s Tennis Sweeps Tuskegee to Open Season

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's tennis team opened its 2015 season with a pair of victories at Tuskegee Thursday. UWA won the first match, 5-0, and took the second, 5-1.

West Alabama opened the first match by notching wins at all three doubles positions. Stanzi Stuijt and Madeline Scares were 8-4 winners at No. 1. Evelyn Moreno and Sandra Florez won 8-0 at No. 2, while Kathryn Adams and Shannon McEvoy took the No. 3 doubles, 8-2.

Stuijt and Skaras finished off the Golden Tigers with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Stuijt defeated Reiciz North, 6-2, 7-6 (4). Skaras beat Kimberly Bowen 6-1, 6-2.

The Tigers took two of three in doubles during the second match, but finished off the Golden Tigers for the match win with three victories in singles play.

Stuijt and Karas won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles, while Adams and McEvoy cruised to an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

Karas defeated Bowen, 6-4, 6-0, in No. 3 singles. McEvoy and Adams won at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively. McEvoy defeated Kayla Triche, 6-0, 6-1 and Adams polished off Matasha Monroe, 6-0, 6-0.

West Alabama travels to Clark Atlanta for its next match on Monday.
