LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama kept its record unblemished at 3-0 by defeating West Georgia, 6-3, in women's Gulf South Conference tennis Friday at the Vaughn Tennis Complex.
The Tigers, 1-0 in GSC play, won two of three doubles matches to set the tone for the remainder of the match. West Alabama took four of six singles matches. West Georgia dipped to 4-4 overall, 0-4 in conference play.
Stanzi Stuijt and
Madeline Skaras won in No. 1 doubles, 8-0, over Gabby Chanthaphueng and Taylor Lefton, while
Sandra Florez and
Evelyn Moreno teamed up to defeat Sierra Brown and Sarah Watson, 8-4, at No. 2.
Stuijt posted a convincing win at No. 1 doubles, beating Nicole Northrup 6-2, 6-0. Skaras took care of Lefton at No. 2, 6-3, 7-6 (8).
Shannon McEvoy and Florez also took their singles matches in a convincing manner.
The Tigers return to GSC play Saturday when both the men and women's teams are host to Alabama-Huntsville at 1:30 p.m. Admission to UWA tennis matches is free.
