LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Alabama-Huntsville handed West Alabama its first loss of the young tennis season, defeating the Tigers, 7-2, Saturday at the Vaughn Tennis Center.
West Alabama dropped to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the GSC with the setback. UAH improved to 3-1 and 2-0.
"We could not get the momentum to go in our favor," UWA head coach
Lisa Floyd said. "We started playing from behind and that is always a difficult position to be in."
UAH took two of three doubles matches, with
Kathryn Adams and
Shannon McEvoy defeating Marta Briega and Naomi Esteve, 8-2, at No. 3 for the Tigers only win
The Lady Chargers also won five of six singles matches, with
Evelyn Moreno beating Briega at No. 3 for the Tigers only victory.
Madeline Skaras absorbed a split sets loss at in No. 2 singles at the hands of Christina Cabanas, 6-2, 4-6, 10-4.
"Maddie Skaras was our only singles line to split sets and unfortunately
Shannon McEvoy was ill and couldn't compete in singles," Floyd said. "We have some minor things to correct in practice, but I am confident we will play the game we are capable of playing in future matches."
