Box Score 2 VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State belted five home runs, including three in the second inning of the first game, to earn a Gulf South Conference softball doubleheader sweep over West Alabama Saturday at Steel's Diamond at Blazer Park.
 
The sweep was the 15
th consecutive win for Valdosta State and improved the Lady Blazers to 25-2 overall and 12-1 in GSC play. West Alabama is 9-13 and 3-10.
 
Jaime Phillips, Fran Johnson and Brandy Morgan all homered in a six-run second inning to set the tone for the Lady Blazers in the opening game. Morgan had two of VSU's seven hits in the first game.
 
Johnson and Morgan homered again for Valdosta State in the second game, who exploded for 12 runs in the fourth inning. Morgan, Phillips and Chelsea Canara had two hits apiece in the second game for VSU.
 
Caitlyn Calhoun (14-1) allowed just one hit on the way to earning the pitching win in the first game. Huntyre Elling (7-0) earned the win in the second game. 
Alli Hall (6-9) and 
Giana Cavallaro (1-3) absorbed the losses for UWA.
 
Jordyn Whiddon recorded a pair of hits for West Alabama in second game.
 
West Alabama and Valdosta State are scheduled to complete the three-game series with a single game Sunday. First pitch is set for noon central time.
