CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The West Alabama men and women's tennis teams both opened a three-match road swing by defeating Lee University in Gulf South Conference matches Wednesday at the Devos Tennis Center.
The UWA women defeated Lee, 6-3, and improved to 7-5 overall and 5-4 in GSC play. The Tiger men were 7-2 winners over the Flames to raise their record to 8-4 overall and 6-2 in league play. The Lady Flames dropped to 6-7, 1-7 in GSC play, while the Lee men dipped to 1-11 and 0-7.
The UWA women won all three doubles matches and split the singles courts for the victory.
Madeline Skaras defeated Maclain Yowarsky at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-3 and
Shannon McEvoy beat Krista Good 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
Sandra Florez defeated Jodie Rice 6-0, 6-2 to win the No. 5 singles court.
West Alabama's men won two of three doubles courts and five of six singles matches.
Adam Drysdale defeated Ignacio Salom Hernandez, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 to win at No. 1 singles.
Manuel Grossmann was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Daniel Hardesty at No. 3, while
Nicolai Jochamowitz beat Westley Lemke 7-5, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
Caspar Schuetze defeated Mike Herelle 6-2, 6-0 and
Prabh Bal beat Kip Kahler 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively.
The Tigers play a neutral site match against St. Leo on Saturday at 2 p.m. Both the men and women's matches begin at 2 p.m. on the campus of Valdosta State University.
