LIVINGSTON, Ala. –
Kaila Hunt has been named as Graduate Assistant Coach for Softball at the University of West Alabama, according to an announcement by head coach
Will Atkinson.
Hunt joins the UWA staff after graduating Cum Laude from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics degree with a minor in Educational Studies where she was also a four year starter under head coach Patrick Murphy from 2011 to 2014. During her four years with the Crimson Tide she tallied the program's second most career homeruns of 58 and the second most career runs batted in with 215.
In addition to making her name in the Alabama record books as the one of the Top 10 student-athletes in eight career categories, five season and one single game record, Hunt compiled a long list of individual records. During the 2013 and 2014 seasons she was named an NFCA All-American and added to the Top 25 of USA Softball Players of the Year. She helped the Tide to a 2012 NCAA National Championship by leading the South Eastern Conference with 21 homeruns and 77 RBI.
Her accolades off the diamond were as extensive. She earned a place on the Dean's List in 2010 to 2012, having been named to the CoSida Academic All-District team, Academic All-SEC team and NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete in back-to-back seasons. A 2011 SEC All-Freshman team honoree, Hunt was a First-Year Academic Honor Roll member in her first year.
Prior to collegiate career, she was a 2010 graduate of Greenbrier High School in her hometown of Evans, Ga. She was a three-time First Team All-County honoree, two-time All-Stat, a Region 5A Player of the Year and a Gatorade Player of the Year nominee under head coach Garret Black.
Only a year removed from her playing days, Hunt has gathered experience coaching working with the Patrick Murphy Softball School Summer Camp and Hitting Clinic from 2011 to 2015. She taught private lessons while playing at the University of Alabama as well as participating in the 2014 University of South Carolina Summer Camp in 2014 and Smash House Training Facility in Thomson, Ga. in 2015.
Hunt will be working on a Masters of Secondary Education in Math in addition to her duties to the West Alabama softball team.
