Golden Goal Lifts No. 3 Young Harris Past UWA Men's Soccer

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Young Harris College freshman Mikie Rowe netted the golden goal in the 96th minute to lift the third ranked team in the nation to a 3-2 victory over the University of West Alabama in overtime during non-conference men's soccer action on Friday.

The goal, which was Rowe's second of the match, improves Young Harris to a 3-0 overall record. West Alabama falls to 1-2.

The Tigers claimed the lead twice in the match, opening with a goal by Clay Green in the 19th minute. The goal came from an assist by Brian Meadows, who later gave the Tigers their second lead in the 30th minute with assists from Green and Christian Adkins.

Mikie Rowe's first goal was the Mountain Lions first equalizer in the 25th minute, with an assist from Josh Poole. Lewis Hilton tied the match at 2-2 before the end of the first half, scoring off of a set piece.

UWA's defense stood tall in the second half, facing a borage of 11 shots but not allowing any points to take the match into extra minutes. Sophomore goalkeeper Brad Louis (1-2) totaled a career high of eight saves, including five in the first half, as YHC outshot the Tigers 23-7.

Jordan Bradshaw (3-0) completed three saves in the net for Young Harris.

"Today was a monster performance by our guys," said UWA head coach Matthew Thorne.

"The outcome was difficult to take after taking the lead twice against some quality opposition. This marks two years running that we've taken them into overtime, but I can see them going a long way again this year. We just have to take away the positives from an unbelievable performance by our team. I'm very proud of our players. Now we just need to bounce back on Sunday."

West Alabama men's soccer returns to action on Sunday to host Barry University at 1:30 p.m. in Tiger Stadium.
