TeMia Pride became the Tigers' leading scorer on Sunday, grabbing two goals in West Alabama's 4-0 Gulf South Conference women's soccer victory over Delta State at Tiger Stadium.
The Tigers snapped a two-game skid, improving to 6-4 on the season while moving to 4-1 in conference action. The Lady Statesmen fall to 4-6 overall, dropping to 0-5 in the league.
"It was a good team performance today, and that's what it needed to be," UWA head coach
Graeme Orr said. "It was a tough week for us with a top region team mid-week and a strong side in Mississippi College on Friday."
"Give credit to Delta, they got the ball down and tried to play it properly. It was never going to be easy today. Fortunately, we took a goal early, and that settled us down. We were able to play through the thirds to see what was on. We got a lot of different looks on goal, so I was pleased to come away with four goals."
Natalie Mooney netted her first goal of the season, scoring the eventual game-winner in the 7
th minute. With the keeper assisting a defender on the left side of the box, Mooney shot a loose ball over the keeper's head and into the back of the net to put UWA ahead 1-0.
TeMia Pride scored her fifith goal of the 2016 campaign in the 39
th minute to become the Tigers' leading scorer.
Ellen Sandstroem hit Pride with a pass from midfield, allowing the UWA forward to place a shot into the top right corner of the net to give West Alabama a 2-0 advantage before the half.

Haylee Frank crossed the ball across the box, finding
Chelsea Commings on the other side. Commings finished the ball from 8 yards out to secure her third goal of the year.
Pride netted her second goal of the match in the 72
nd minute after a Statesman defender mishandled the ball, setting Pride up with a one-on-one opportunity against the keeper. Pride's shot rolled off the keeper's hands and into the net to give the Tigers a final 4-0 lead.
Issy Foster (6-4) made three saves on seven shots faced to earn her third shutout of the season. Ella Hunkin (1-2) made nine saves on a combined 20 shots, allowing four goals in the loss.
The Tigers will begin a three-game, GSC road trip, taking on Christian Brothers on Friday. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
