#5 Women's Tennis

No. 6 UWF Defeats UWA in Women’s Tennis

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – After taking two of three doubles matches, sixth-ranked West Florida won five of six in singles competition to take a 7-2 Gulf South Conference women's tennis match from West Alabama Friday at the Vaughan Tennis Complex.
 
West Florida improved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in GSC play. West Alabama is 1-1 and 0-1.
 
Amina Mukhametshina defeated Hannah Toro, 7-5, 6-2 in No. 1 singles, while Sandra Florez and Evelyn Moreno beat Kat Dikosavljevic and Valeria Mantilla in No. 3 doubles, 8-4, for UWA's lone wins.
 
UWF won the remaining five singles matches with Paula Lopez defeating Moreno 6-0, 6-2, Dianna Vlad defeating Liliana Araucz 6-2, 3-0 (retired), Sarai Flores beating Georgina Morral 6-2, 7-5, Heather Mixon defeating Florez 6-4, 6-2 and Giovana Patitucci besting Andrea Tomassone 7-6, 6-3.
 
Vlad and Toro defeated Araucz and Mukhametshina in No. 1 doubles, 8-4. Nina Bubelova and Paula Lopez took care of Morral and Tomassone by an 8-4 score.
 
West Alabama returns to the court Saturday to host Stillman at 11 a.m.
