UWA Women’s Tennis Downs UNA, 5-3

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – West Alabama won two of three doubles points and then three singles matches in straight sets to score a 5-3 women's Gulf South Conference tennis victory over North Alabama Saturday night. The match was moved from Florence to Huntsville due to inclement weather.

The victory over UNA was the first for West Alabama since 2010, improving the Tigers to 6-2 overall, 3-1 in GSC play. North Alabama is 4-4 and 3-3.

Amina Mukhametshina and Georgina Morrall won #1 doubles, while Andrea Tomassone and Liliana Araucz took #2 doubles to get the Tigers off on the right foot.

Mukhametshina defeated Olivera Bgouabeu 6-4, 6-2 in #1 singles. Araucz was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Avery King at #4 singles and Tomassone downed Claire DeGeorge at #6 singles 6-0, 6-2. UNA won at #2 and #3. The #5 singles match was unfinished.

The Tigers stay in conference play with a match at Alabama Huntsville on Sunday. UNA plays at Alabama State on Sunday.
