Burtain, David, Savage, Moore Claim Wins on GSC Track and Field Final Day

CLINTON, Miss. – Caren Burtain, Cecelia David, Devonta Savage and Kendall Moore all claimed Gulf South Conference titles in their events in the final day of the GSC Track and Field Championships Saturday at Parkman Track on the campus of Mississippi College.

Both the West Alabama men and women's teams finished third in the Championships. West Georgia won the women's team title and Lee won the men's.

Burtain captured conference crowns in both the 800 meter run and the 1500 meter run, finishing in 2:18.08 and 4:44.32, respectively. David won the women's 5000 meter run with an 18:23.01 time after winning the 10,000 earlier in the meet.

Savage came away the GSC men's 100-meter dash champion, clocking in at 10.64 before finishing third in the 200-meters with a 21.67. Kendall Moore continued his dominance of GSC high jumpers, winning the meet with a leap of 2.00 meters.

Additional top performers for UWA on Saturday included third place finishes for Shechinah Adams in the women's 800 and Alondra Aquirre in the women's 1500m with times of 2:26.09 and 5:05.04, respectively.

Keaundre Hutton was third in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 49.73 and Xavier Mundell was second in the men's 400 meter hurdles at 1:03.05 and third in the men's 110 hurdles at 16.54.

Rounding out top performances for the Tigers on Saturday was a fourth place finish by Datrion Fultz in the men's 800 and fifth place finishes by Karissa Solorzano (W 5000), Katelyn Matthews (W HJ), Malik Higgins (M 200) and Keandre Knox (M 400).

All-GSC first team men's honors were earned by Moore, Savage and Mundell. Victor Onyango and Mundell nabbed second team men's honors. Women's first team All-GSC honors went to David and Burtain
