LIVINGSTON, Ala. — After a pair of standout performances at the Falcon Classic this past weekend, the University of West Alabama track and field team saw Dedric Hicks and J'Da Williams earn multiple Gulf South Conference weekly honors.
Hicks was named GSC Track Athlete of the Week, while Williams earned both GSC Freshman of the Week and GSC Track Athlete of the Week honors.
Hicks collected his second GSC weekly award of the athletic year after another impressive showing in the shot put at the Falcon Classic. The field athlete recorded a throw of 17.48 meters to win the event. His mark currently stands as the top throw in all of Division II this season and is just 0.02 meters shy of his personal best of 17.50 meters, set at the GSC Indoor Championships.
Williams, meanwhile, delivered one of the best performances of her young career at the Falcon Classic. The freshman competed in three events, setting personal records in two. She opened the day by winning the 100 meters with a blazing time of 11.53 seconds, the fastest mark in the nation to start the outdoor season. She followed with a second-place finish in the 200 meters, clocking a personal-best 24.61 seconds. Williams capped the meet by helping UWA's 4x100 relay team to a victory, as the quartet finished with a time of 46.67 seconds.
Both Hicks and Williams continue to shine for West Alabama and will look to lead the Tigers again this weekend at the Ole Miss Relays.
