Four Tiger Wranglers to Compete at CNFR

CASPER, Wyo. – Four University of West Alabama Tiger Wranglers will compete for a national title at the annual College National Finals Rodeo that runs from Sunday through June 18 at the Casper Events Center Arena.

Bull rider Lance Daniel, breakaway ropers Marlee Malcom and Chrissy Morris and goat tier Kesia Smith will be representing the Tiger Wranglers at the 2016 CNFR.

"Four of our athletes have a great shot at a national title. I remind them that they didn't make it to the national college finals by getting lucky," UWA head coach Alex Caudle said. "They need to do just as they have done all year and let the rest take care of itself."

The CNFR features the best of the best in college rodeo. It is where the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association crowns individual event champions in saddle bronc riding, bare back riding, bull riding, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing, breakaway roping, and goat tying. National team championships are also awarded to both men's and women's teams.

Over 400 cowboys and cowgirls from over 100 universities and colleges compete in Casper each year. Contestants compete all year in one of the NIRA's 11 regions for a chance to rope or ride at the CNFR. The top three students in each event, and top two men's and women's teams from the NIRA's 11 regions, qualify.

Daniel finished second in the Ozark Region in bull riding to earn his spot at the CNFR. Morris finished second and Malcom third in the region in breakaway roping to punch their tickets to Casper. Smith finished third in the Ozark region in goat tying to secure a spot at the national finals.
