Top-Ranked Georgia Gwinnet Hands UWA Women’s Tennis 6-1 Setback

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Defending NAIA national champion and top-ranked Georgia Gwinnett spoiled West Alabama's regular season women's tennis opener with a 6-1 win over the Tigers Saturday at the GGC Tennis Facility.

West Alabama's only point came at No. 3 doubles where Teona Tatishvili and Andrea Tomassone defeated Emerald Able and Margarida Abreu, 8-7. After winning two doubles matches the Grizzlies put the match away with singles victories at No. 3, 2, 4 and 5 in that order.

The Grizzlies improved to 3-0 while dropping the Tigers to 0-1. West Alabama remains in Lawrenceville to play a Sunday morning match against Tusculum before traveling to Atlanta for a 3 p.m. match at Clark Atlanta.
