LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama won the doubles point and then went on the take three of the four singles matches that were completed to notch a 4-1 women's college tennis victory over NCAA Division I opponent Alcorn State Thursday at the Vaughan Tennis Complex.
The win was the third straight for West Alabama and improves the Tigers to 3-1 on the season. Alcorn State dropped to 0-5.
"The women had a good day against a good opponent. The Alcorn women won the Southwest Athletic Conference last year and went to the NCAA tournament," UWA coach
Jeff Beaman said. "Our continued great doubles play really set the tone, and the women carried it into the singles and took care of closing the match."
Two of three West Alabama doubles teams won before
Amina Mukhametshina,
Georgina Morral and
Teona Tatishvili won at No. 1, 3 and 4 singles, respectively. No. 2 doubles was unfinished.
