UWA Wins GSC Opener, Extends Win Streak to Five Matches

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama women's tennis team extended its winning streak to five matches by making light work of Alabama Huntsville, defeating the Lady Chargers, 8-1, Monday at the Vaughan Tennis Complex.

"I was very pleased with how the women closed out this match," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "We played well against a very strong UAH team that finished last year in the top 30 in the nation and returned all their starters."

After UWA and UAH split No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, Amina Mukhametshina and Georgina Morral came back from being down 6-1 to win 8-6 at No. 1 doubles and set the tone for the remainder of the match.

The Tigers swept all six singles matches in straight sets to open Gulf South Conference play with a victory. The Tigers improved to 5-1 overall with the win. UAH dropped to 3-4 and 1-1.

The Tigers travel to NCAA Division I Southern Miss on Thursday for a 2:30 p.m. match. UAH plays Rollins in a neutral site match Saturday in Pensacola, Florida.
