#5 Women's Tennis

No. 26 Tiger Women Down Hawks, 8-1

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The 26th-ranked West Alabama women's tennis team had little trouble staying unbeaten at home this year by defeating Gulf South Conference foe Shorter, 8-1, Saturday at the Vaughan Tennis Complex.
 
The Tigers are now 3-0 at home, 2-0 in GSC league and 6-2 overall. Shorter lost for the fourth straight match, dropping to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the GSC.
 
The Tigers set the tone early by winning all three doubles matches. No. 14 Amina Mukhametshina and Georgina Morral won at No. 1, 8-1. Liliana Araucz and Evelyn Moreno were 8-2 winners at No. 2, while Teona Tatishvili and Andrea Tomassone won at No. 3, 9-8 (4).
 
West Alabama won five of six singles matches, including 31st-ranked Mukhametshina at No. 1. The Tigers only loss came at No. 2 singles.
