Tiger Women Cruise Past West Georgia, 9-0

CARROLLTON, Ga. - West Alabama cruised through the doubles matches and then won five of six singles courts in straight sets to dispense of West Georgia, 9-0, in a women's Gulf South Conference tennis match Wednesday at Sunset Hills.

"This was a good win for the women," UWA coach Jeff Beaman said. "We are starting to get things back rolling in the right direction and need to finish strong."

After muddling through a four-match losing skid, the 22nd-ranked Tigers have rebounded to win the last two matches, both on the road. West Alabama is now 12-6 overall, 6-2 in GSC play. West Georgia is 4-7 and 0-6.

West Alabama has four regular season matches left, two on the road and two at home. The Tigers play Tuesday at NCAA Division I Jackson State and then close out an eight-match road swing at Lee on April 7. North Alabama and Montevallo visit the Vaughan Tennis Complex on the UWA campus on April 9 and 13, respectively.

The Tigers have already clinched a spot in the GSC Championships. Also already nailing down a spot in the conference tournament are No. 6 West Florida, Mississippi College, No. 10 Valdosta State, North Alabama and Lee.
