UWA Women’s Tennis Improves to 7-2 With Win Over CBU

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama women's tennis team remained undefeated in Gulf South Conference play by notching a 5-0 win over Christian Brothers Saturday at the Vaughan Tennis Complex.

The Tigers are 7-2 overall, 3-0 in GSC play and 4-0 at home. Christian Brothers is 7-5, 0-2 in GSC play.

CBU gave West Alabama all it could handle in doubles, but the Tigers hung on for an 8-6 win at No. 1 and a 9-7 victory at No. 2. CBU defaulted at No. 3. Georgina Morral and Teona Tatishvili were winners at No. 1, while Evelyn Moreno and Liliana Araucz were winners at No. 2.

"It was a battle at one and two doubles. We easily could have lost both matches," UWA coach Jeff Beaman said. "I am very proud of how the women battled back and then came out strong in singles to clinch the match."

Tomassone defeating Darby Laschober 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and a CBU default at No. 6 handed the match to West Alabama. Singles matches on the No. 1, 2 and 3 courts did not finish and No. 4 did not play.

West Alabama is host to Mississippi College in a GSC match on Thursday. Match time is 2 p.m.
