No. 22 UWA Beats Lee, 5-3, In GSC Women’s Tennis

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – No. 22 West Alabama closed out the road portion of the 2017 season with a 5-3 women's Gulf South Conference tennis victory over Lee University Friday at the Devos Tennis Center.
 
The Tigers improved to 13-7 overall and 7-2 GSC play. UWA has won three straight heading into Sunday's regular-season GSC finale against North Alabama (9-5, 5-2) at the Vaughan Tennis Complex on the UW campus. Lee dropped to 7-4 and 4-4.
 
The Tigers got off to a good start by winning two of three doubles courts. Amina Mukhametshina and Georgina Morral defeated Francesca Tondi/Marta Garcia-Nieto, 8-4, while Teona Tatishvili and Andrea Tomassone beat Krista Good and Nicole Shennett, 8-2.
 
In singles play Mukhametshina def Tondi 1-0 ret. Tatishvili defeated Garcia-Nieto 6-1 3-6 , 0-6 and Morral defeated Good 3-6 3-6.
 
Nos. 5 and 6 singles did not finish after an injury default by UWA at No. 6 and play being halted at No. 5 when the match was clinched for the Tigers.
 
First serve for Sunday's match against UNA is 2 p.m.
