No. 5 Lynn Defeats Tigers, 3-0, in Men’s Soccer

Box Score

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Three different players scored as No. 5 Lynn University defeated West Alabama, 3-0, in men's soccer action Sunday at Signaigo Field on the campus of Christian Brothers University.

The loss was the first of the season for West Alabama, dropping the Tigers to 2-1. Lynn improved to 4-0 with the win in a game that was put together on Thursday to replace games that were cancelled due to Hurricane Irma.

"We are never happy to lose. I thought our lads played decent for the majority of the game," UWA coach Matthew Thorne said. "Give credit to Lynn. They are ruthless, and when they get a half chance they punish you.

"There is a reason they have had so much success over the years," Thorne said. "Lynn is strong defensively and has some dangerous weapons in attack."

Jack Watson's header, his first goal of the season, came at the 20:54 mark off an assist by Elliott Legg and gave the Knights a 1-0 lead at the half.

Tomer Britton made it 2-0 Lynn with a goal at 66:32 that was assisted by Watson. Lukas Borner put the icing on the cake with Lynn's final goal off an assist from IIias Papadopoulos at 69:14.

Lynn had seven shots on goal, 13 overall. West Alabama had seven total shots and three on goal. Knights goalie Alexander Roth earned the shutout, while Tigers keeper Brad Louis had four saves in the loss.

"From box to box it was a very even game, but they were clinical and they took their goals very well," Thorne said. "I want to mention Jean-Baptiste Meyniel and Kiaran Maule, who had quality performances for us. We now need to put all our focus on West Florida for our biggest game of the year."

The Tigers are host to West Florida Friday at Tiger Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
