THE SERIES

Brett Gilliland is 34-20 in his fifth season at UWA, his fifth as a head coach. John Bland is 10-38 in his fifth year at Mississippi College, 82-54 in his 14th year as a head coach.

LAST SEVEN
West Alabama has won the last seven meetings in the series. Mississippi College's last victory was on Sept. 21, 1995, a 30-7 triumph at Clinton. The series was discontinued from 1997 to 2016  when MC was competing in NCAA Division III.

Following last week's win over Florida Tech, West Alabama jumped from out of the NCAA Division II Super Region 2 ranking to No. 5. The Tigers are one of five GSC teams ranked in the Region 2 top 10.

ROGERS CLIMBING RUSHING CHARTS
UWA running back Tyler Rogers is needs just two rushing touchdowns to become the all-all-time leader at UWA. Gary Johnston (09-13) had 28. Rogers needs just 29 yards rushing to move into fifth past Jackie O'Neal (73-76) and 130 to become the fourth-leading career rusher at UWA, eclipsing Jerrin Wright (03-06).

CREEPING UP ON THE HEAD COACH
Tiger quarterback Harry Satterwhite needs just 129 passing yards to move past his head coach Brett Gilliland into third place on the UWA career passing list. Satterwhite has thrown for 6,561 yards in his Tiger career. Gilliland passed for 6,689 from 2000-03. Kyle Caldwell (11-14) is the UWA all-time leader with 7,711 yards.
 
GAINES ATOP YPP CAREER LIST
Tiger punter Zach Gaines is averaging 42.69 yards over 122 career punts to put him first on that all-time list. He has punted for 5,208 yards, good for second all-time at UWA. Chris Hilliker (88-91) punted for 11,213 yards to lead that category.
 
CAREER HIGH FOR BAYLEY
UWA receiver Bayley Blanchard had a career-high 132 receiving yards in the win over Florida Tech last week. He tied his career best for catches in a game with nine, which he also accomplished against Miles on Sept. 6. This was the second time Blanchard had more than 100 receiving yards in a game, accounting for 102 on seven grabs at Shorter.
 
PERMANENT CAPTAINS
The Tiger team has voted and the following players have been honored by being named permanent captains for the 2018 season. Quarterback Harry Satterwhite and linebacker Terry Samuel have been voted as permanent captains by their teammates for the second consecutive year. Joining them this season are defensive end Darius Ellis and tight end Qua Boyd.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior defensive back Abraham Wallace earned GSC defensive player of the week for his performance in the Tigers 29-22 victory over Florida Tech Saturday at Tiger Stadium. The senior from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, recorded 10 tackles to help UWA (6-3,3-3) limit the Panthers to just 40 yards rushing in the win. Wallace also had two tackles for loss and forced a fumble.
 
MORE THAN 30
Mississippi College has allowed six of eight opponents to score a minimum of 30 points.
