THE SERIES
This is the first meeting between West Alabama and Bowie State.
 
WEST ALABAMA
West Alabama is 8-3 overall after closing the regular season with a 45-7 win over West Florida.
 
BOWIE STATE
Bowie State is 9-2 after winning the CIAA Championship last week with a 30-10 win over Fayetteville State.
 
THE COACHES
Brett Gilliland is 37-20 in his fifth season at UWA, his fifth as a head coach. Damon Wilson is 65-41 in his 10th year at Bowie State, his 10th season as a head coach.
 
AGAINST THE REGION
West Alabama is 2-2 against the 2018 NCAA Super Region 2 field. The Tigers defeated Lenoir-Rhyne and Florida Tech, while losing to Valdosta State and West Georgia.

BACK TO BACK, FIFTH SINCE 2009
West Alabama has now earned a berth in the NCAA Division II Playoffs in back to back seasons for the second time since 2011 and the fifth time since 2009.
 
LAST TIME IN THE POSTSEASON
West Alabama was the No. 1 seed in Super Region 2 in 2017, advancing to the third round before being upset by eventual national runner-up West Florida.
 
18 FOR BOTH SIDES
Both West Alabama and Bowie State have won 18 games over the last two seasons. The Tigers are 18-6. The Bulldogs are 18-4.
 
ON A ROLL
Both teams are playing well coming into the opening round of the playoffs. West Alabama has won five of its last six games. Bowie State has won nine of 10 since losing its season opener.
 
DAY GAME DOMINANCE
West Alabama is 6-1 in day games this season. Bowie State is 8-1 in games that kicked off before dark.

ROGERS RUSHING TD RECORD
With a pair of rushing touchdowns last week against West Florida UWA running back Tyler Rogers became the program's all-time leader in rushing TDs with 30.
 
2K RUNNERS
UWA running back Tyler Rogers picked up 77 yards rushing in the win over West Florida last week, giving him 2,060 in his career and making him just the fifth player in Tiger history to run for more than 2,000 career yards.
 
CREEPING UP ON DEON
Tiger quarterback Harry Satterwhite has 63 career TD passes, good for third all-time at UWA. Tiger running backs coach Deon Williams (08-10) threw for 64 and Kyle Caldwell (11-14) for 72.
 
HALFWAY MEANS SOMETHING
West Alabama is 7-0 in games where the Tigers have led at halftime this season.
 
SCORING FIRST … GO AHEAD
Scoring first, however, has not been that big of a deal. UWA is 2-2 when scoring first and 6-1 when the opponent draws first blood.

Dating back to the 2016 season West Alabama has won 24 of its last 31 games, 77 percent.
 
CAREER DAYS
A pair of sophomore play makers put together a career day for the Tigers last week. Derrick Underwood picked up 133 yards rising on just 11 carries, while receiver Bayley Blanchard caught 11 passes for 122 yards and a TD.
 
COMMON OPPONENTS
There are no common opponents this season for West Alabama and Bowie State. The last common opponent is Delta State, which defeated Bowie State, 45-35, in the first round of the 2017 NCAA playoffs. The Statesmen then lost to UWA, 27-20, in the second round and then again in the 2018 regular season, 17-14.

HOLLER ABOUT HARRY
A finalist for the 2017 Harlon Hill Award, Harry Satterwhite has earned all-conference, all-region and All-America honors at UWA. The 2017 Alabama Sports Writers Association Small College Athlete of the Year, Satterwhite is currently third all-time at West Alabama in passing yards with 6,922 and touchdown passes with 63. He is the UWA career record holder in pass completions with 652 and is the only quarterback in school history to attempt over 1,000 passes with a record-setting 1,057. Going into today's game is the career completion percentage record holder at 61.7. He is the UWA single season record holder for pass attempts, pass completions, passing yards and completion percentage.
 
BIRDMAN
The 2017 Gulf South Conference defensive player of the year, senior linebacker Terry Samuel has been a UWA defensive stalwart throughout his career for some time. An all-conference, all-region and All-America selection, Samuel has played in 43 games and made 249 tackles. A finalist for the 2017 Cliff Harris Award, he has 21.5 tackles for loss.
 
TOP TIGHT END
Voted the top tight end in the Gulf South Conference by Hero Sports, an All-American and a two-time All-GSC player, senior tight end Qua Boyd has 90 career receptions for 1,125 yards and 11 touchdowns despite missing three games this year due to injury.
 
PROTECTION
The UWA offensive line has allowed just two quarterback sacks in the last four games and just 14 on the season, good enough for fourth in the Gulf South Conference.
 
FOURTH AND GOING FOR IT
West Alabama leads the GSC in fourth-down conversions at 80 percent. The Tigers have converted 8-of-10 tries.
