LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama men's tennis team evened its record in Gulf South Conference matches by cruising to a 9-0 victory over the University of Alabama at Huntsville Tuesday at the Vaughan Tennis Complex.
West Alabama improved its record to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in GSC play. UAH is 2-5 and 1-3.
"This was a strong win against a solid UAH team," West Alabama coach Jeff Beaman said. "We are now looking forward to hosting a nationally-ranked Auburn-Montgomery team later this week."
Julius Kaverinen and Linus Holthey got the Tigers off to a fast start at No. 1 doubles with an 8-2 win over Dylan Hall and Elliot Hopson. Henrik Sinkko and Andrii Stratiienko defeated Timo Christen and Tim Nutz 8-4 at No. 2, while Anton Lof and Honorio Fernandez held off Noah Pring and James Caddies at No. 3 doubles, 9-8 (4).
The Tigers won five of six singles matches in straight sets, with only Caddies taking Erick Nordblom to a tie-breaker that Nordblom won 11-9. Kaverinen, Stratiienko, Sinkko, Lof and Nicolai Jochamowitz won in straight sets.
West Alabama is host to No. 20 Auburn-Montgomery (1-1, 1-0) Friday at 2 p.m. UAH remains on the road at Birmingham Southern on Thursday.
