MC Remains Unbeaten With 6-3 Win over UWA

CLINTON, Miss. – Mississippi College remained unbeaten on the young tennis season by defeating West Alabama, 6-3, Wednesday in Gulf South Conference play at the MC Tennis Complex.

The Choctaws are off to a 7-0 overall start, 2-0 in GSC play. West Alabama is 3-3 and 2-2.

"Mississippi College is a tough team and you have to credit them with taking it to us," West Alabama head coach Jeff Beaman said. "I can accept a loss, but I need better effort and attitude from our team if we are going achieve our potential."

Mississippi College got off to a fast start by winning two of three doubles matches. UWA's lone doubles point came at No. 2, where Evelyn Moreno and Julie Gonzales-Rodriguez defeated Tori Roberts and Aneta Golawska.

The reigning GSC player and freshman of the week, Katia De La Garza, and Imperia Martinez Mora picked up the Tigers singles victories. De La Garza beat Brenna Keller 6-3, 6-2 and Mora defeated RebeccaGrace Kimball 6-4, 6-3.

West Alabama has just over a week off before playing Nova Southeastern in a neutral site match in Pensacola, Florida on March 9. Mississippi College plays at Alabama Huntsville on Saturday.
