Tigers Cruise Past Arkansas Tech, 7-2

PENSACOLA, Fla. – West Alabama won five of six singles matches and two of three doubles points on the way to a 7-2 women's college tennis victory over Arkansas Tech Tuesday at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex on the University of West Florida campus.
 
West Alabama improved its record to 7-3, while the Golden Suns dipped to 7-2.
 
After Arkansas Tech won at No. 3 doubles to open the match, Katia De La Garza and Julie Gonzalez-Rodriguez posted an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles, followed by Andrea Tomassone and Liliana Araucz winning, 8-4, at No. 2 to cement the tone for the match.
 
De La Garza came from a set down to defeat Katharina Drebka (1-6, 7-5, 6-0) at No. 1 singles, as did Georgina Salom at No. 3 over Julia Schoch (6-7 (6), 6-4, 11-9). Tomassone cruised to a 6-1 first-set win over Kami Ward at No. 3, before having to fight back for an 11-9 tiebreak after losing 6-7 (5) in the second set.
 
Gonzalez-Rodriguez and Araucz were straight-set winners at No. 5 and 6, respectively, over Annabel Rowlands and Megan Bell, 6-2, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-3.
 
West Alabama returns to the courts Thursday in a Gulf South Conference match at Montevallo. Arkansas Tech remains on the road at West Florida.
