MONTEVALLO – A victory at No. 1 doubles was all West Alabama could manage in a Gulf South Conference women's tennis match between a pair of teams ranked in the top 34 in the nation, with No. 30 Montevallo making light work of No. 34 West Alabama, 8-1, Thursday.
"This was a disappointing day against a team that came out, played hard and took it to us," West Alabama head coach Jeff Beaman said. "We have a ton of talent, but we need to compete better to reach our potential and not have days like this."
Montevallo improved to 15-1 overall, 5-1 in GSC play. West Alabama dropped to 7-4 and 3-3.
Katia De La Garza and Georgina Salom, ranked 20th in the nation in doubles, secured the lone win for the Tigers with an 8-4 victory over Emily Beatty and Bhargavi Kalaga.
The Lady Falcons went on to take two of three doubles matches and all six singles points, winning four in straight sets.
West Alabama remains in GSC play by hosting Lee on Sunday. Montevallo travels to Delta State on Sunday.
