Tiger Women Win Fourth Straight, Eight of Last Nine

LIVINGSTON – The University of West Alabama women's tennis team won its fourth straight match, and eight of its last nine, by defeating Christian Brothers, 9-0, in a Gulf South Conference match Thursday at the Vaughan Tennis Complex.

Ranked 40^th nationally, the Tigers cruised through doubles play and then won every singles match in straight sets to improve to 11-4 overall, 6-3 in GSC play. Christian Brothers fell to 13-12 and 1-8 with its fourth loss in the last five matches.

Ranked 26^th nationally, the UWA No. 1 doubles team of Katia De La Garza and Julie Gonzalez-Rodriguez started the match off on a good note for the Tigers with an 8-2 win over Tara McElroy and Lauren Woog. Andrea Tomassone and Liliana Araucz won at No. 2 over Judit Aubets Macia and Meg Mattis, 8-5. Evelyn Moreno and Imperia Martinez Mora beat Brittany Weathersby and Melody Mays by an 8-0 mark.

De La Garza, Moreno, Tomassone, Gonzalez-Rodriguez, Araucz and Martinez Mora cruised through singles matches 1 through 6, respectively. De La Garza beat McElroy 6-1, 6-2, while Moreno defeated Woog 7-5, 6-2 and Tomassone downed Aubets Macia 6-1, 6-3. Gonzalez-Rodriguez cruised past Mattis 6-0, 6-0, Araucz defeated Mays 6-0, 76-1 and Martinez Mora was a 6-0, 6-2 winner of Weathersby.

West Alabama visits North Alabama on Saturday, while CBU travels to West Florida on Friday.
