Tiger Women Edge UNA, 5-4, for GSC Tennis Win

MUSCLE SHOALS – Liliana Araucz got down a set and then roared back to win at No. 6 singles to secure a 5-4 Gulf South Conference women's tennis match win for West Alabama over North Alabama on Sunday.

Ranked 40^thnationally by ITA and ninth in the NCAA South Region poll, the West Alabama women are 12-4 overall, 7-3 in GSC play and 8-3 against regional opponents.

"This was a match that should help us learn about attitude and toughness," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "Lila was a warrior with the match on the line. She was down a set, and to come back and win her match and clinch the match for our team was huge."

"It was a battle across the board," Beaman said. "We need to be strong and get right back at it tomorrow on the road against Georgia Southwestern."

Araucz lost 4-6 in the first set, then battled back to win 7-5, 6-1 over Elise Sickle to help nail down the win for UWA. Katia De La Garza and Julie Gonzalez-Rodriguez were also singles winners for the Tigers at No. 1 and 5, respectively.

The Tigers won two of three doubles points. De La Garza and Gonzalez Rodriguez won 8-6 at No. 1, while Evelyn Moreno and Georgina Salom won at doubles No. 3, 8-6.

The Tigers return to the courts Monday at 2 p.m. in a neutral site match in Columbus, Georgia against Georgia Southwestern. North Alabama travels to Alabama A&M on Tuesday.
