Angel Brown Hired as Softball Assistant Coach

LIVINGSTON, Ala.– The University of West Alabama Softball program has hired Angel Brown to serve as the new Assistant coach under Head coach Carie Dever-Boaz going forward starting in the 2019-2020 school year.

"We are extremely excited to have Angel join our program.  She brings a wealth of knowledge of the game as well an amazing recruiting connection throughout the state of Alabama and the Southeast," said Dever-Boaz. "I have known Angel for three years and worked with her at various camps across the Southeast, I love her passion and energy on the field."

"I am beyond excited to be joining the UWA. I feel extremely blessed that this opportunity has opened up for me," said Brown. "While at Livingston I want to learn under the leadership of Coach Carie. My focus is growth for the players and myself."

Brown, a native of Reform, Alabama, served as the head coach of the Bevill State Softball team which was revived under her watch in 2016 where she guided the restarted program to a 24-79-1 record in two years as part of the Alabama Community College Conference.

"It was difficult to leave a place that I was comfortable," said Brown. "I will always be grateful for the opportunities that Bevill State provided to me as a student and as a coach."

Brown played at BSCC from 2006 to 2008 after graduating from Pickens County High School. While at Bevill State, she earned an associate degree before heading to UAB to earn her bachelor's in Physical Education in 2014 and then her master's in Physical Education from UAB in 2018.

Alongside her duties as BSCC Head coach, Brown served as the head coach of the Prospex Softball Organization based in Arab, Alabama starting in 2017. She also was a team consultant for the Birmingham Eliminators Travel Organization and Head coach of the Robert F. Bumpus Middle School eighth grade girls' team in 2016-2017.

"I believe that Angel will fill a lot of gaps for me and be a big difference maker in our ability to compete in the GSC and take the next step in contending for a title," said Dever-Boaz.

Last season, the Tigers finished 30-23 overall and 15-13 and qualified for the GSC Softball Championship Tournament for the first time since 2014.
