Edwards to Play Senior Year at UWA

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Infielder Jacob Edwards will transfer from Southern Mississippi to West Alabama to play his senior season of intercollegiate baseball, according to an announcement today by UWA head coach Gary Rundles.

At 6-foot-2 and 190-pounds, Edwards played his junior season for the Golden Eagles after playing for former UWA assistant Neal Holliman at East Central (Miss.) Community College. He played his prep baseball for Coach Wyatt Tullos at Newton County (Miss.) High School.

Edwards played in 14 games, starting two for USM in 2019. He batted .182 with a double and two runs batted in in 11 at bats.

He batted .347 at East Central in 2018 with 33 RBI, 11 doubles and three home runs. He led the team with five triples, stole 18 bases and scored 51 runs on the way to second-team All-MACJC honors.

As a freshman at ECCC, Edwards batted .316 with five homers, 15 doubles and a team-leading three triples. He also stole 23 bases to lead the team.

Edwards led Newton County High to the state finals as a senior. He was a first-team 4A All-State selection after batting .450 with seven home runs, 13 doubles, 28 RBI and 16 stolen bases.

Following his senior season at NCHS he earned the Captain Award, as well as Best Offensive Player and Best Defensive Player Awards.
