Men’s Fourth, Women Seventh at Viking Stampede

MARSHALL, Mo. – The men finished fourth and the women seventh as the West Alabama rodeo team opened the fall schedule this weekend at the Viking Stampede  at the Salina County Fairgrounds.
 
Jacob Watt won team roping, teaming with his brother Matt from EMCC to score 160 points. Trevor Colby finished sixth in steer wrestling and Aldyn Ashton sixth in breakaway roping.
 
Hosting Missouri Valley College won the men's side with 755 points, followed by Tennessee-Martin (440), East Mississippi Community College (420), Northwest (Miss.) Community College (270) and UWA (200) to round out the top five in the nine-team field.
 
Arkansas-Monticello collected 260 points to end up on top of the women's nine-team field. Missouri Valley (225) was second, followed by EMCC (200), UTM  (90) and NWCC (85)  to complete the women's top five team finishers. UWA finished with 65 points.
 
West Alabama will host the Annual UWA Rodeo Showdown Thursday through Saturday at the Lauderdale County Agri-Center in Meridian, Mississippi. Main performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
