Tigers Fourth in D2SIDA Poll

OKALHOMA CITY – The University of West Alabama Women's Basketball team is making some noise on the regional level as the Tigers have been voted fourth in the South Region in the latest Women's Basketball Division II Media Poll.
 
UWA (3-1) is in the poll for the first time since the inception of the poll seven years ago after splitting the weekend with Alabama Huntsville and opening the season with two wins over Delta State back on Dec. 12 and Dec. 13.
 
West Alabama has been led by the senior Tazsa Garrett-Hammett who is averaging 16.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 1.8 assists. Naelyn Rios, a sophomore, is second in scoring with 14.0 points and leads in assists at 2.8 per contest while junior Bria Dent is averaging a double-double with 10.8 points and 10.0 rebounds. Dent is also leading the team and is second in the conference in steals per game at 3.3.
 
Valdosta State is first in the poll after a 7-0 start to the season followed by Gulf South Conference East Division foe Lee (4-1).
 
The top two teams of the West Division are next with Mississippi College (3-1) third in the poll followed by the Tigers. Montevallo and Union are tied for fifth to wrap up the six-team ranking.
 
UWA returns to action for two games against Union on Jan. 15 at 6 p.m. and Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium. Tickets for the first game can be reserved HERE and tickets for the second contest can be reserved HERE. Links to video and live stats are available on uwaathletics.com.
