Tigers Open With Exhibition Win at Jacksonville State

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The West Alabama women's tennis team got off to a positive start to its season by taking a 4-3 exhibition win over NCAA Division I Jacksonville State Saturday at the JSU Tennis Courts.

"This was a great win to start the season for the women, UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "I was really impressed with how we fought in the singles after losing the doubles point."

After losing the doubles point in a three-match sweep to Jacksonville State, the Tigers roared back to win four of six singles to claim the match, starting with Heden Ly defeating Charlie Croteau 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles with JSU off to a 2-0 start.

Valeria Arevalo then evened the match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Dariana Prato at No. 6 singles. Thea Yang gave the Tigers a 3-2 advantage by defeating Martina Zarza 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5. Sarah Manseri's 2-6, 6-1, 7-5 win over Carolina Bulatovic at No. 1 clinched the match for West Alabama.

West Alabama returns to the court Saturday for a doubleheader exhibition at South Alabama. Match times are 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
