LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama's softball team travels to Huntsville this weekend to play in the UAH Charger Chillout.
The Charger Chillout consists of 11 NCAA Division ll teams including Alabama Huntsville, Lincoln University, Union, Kentucky Wesleyan, Delta State, Shorter, Trevecca Nazarene, Miles College, Young Harris College, Harding, and West Alabama.
Last season the Tigers were 8-14 before COVID-19 wiped out the end of the season. In 2019, West Alabama went 30-23 overall and 15-13 GSC play, qualifying for the GSC Tournament for the first time in five seasons. UWA went 2-2 in the tournament with wins over Valdosta State and Alabama Huntsville.
On Friday UWA will face No. 6 Young Harris College out of the Peach Belt Conference at noon. The Mountain Lions went 19-3 last season before their season was shut down due to COVID-19.
Returning to lead Young Harris are Morgan Curley and Emily Harris. Curley is a sophomore from Flatwoods, Kentucky, who earned a spot on the All-Peach Belt team for the utility position. Harris, a junior from Cumming, Georgia, was named to the preseason All-PBC team at shortstop.
The Tigers close out Friday by playing Union at 5 p.m. The Lady Bulldogs are ranked eighth in the preseason polls for the GSC with Gabby Morris being named to the preseason All-GSC team.
Saturday action has the Tigers playing Harding at 11 a.m. and Lincoln University at 2 p.m.
