Tigers Fall to Wyoming in Exhibition

McCOMB, Miss. – Wyoming took the doubles point and then won five of six singles courts to take a 6-1 women's tennis victory over West Alabama Sunday at the FitLife SportsPlex.

The win improved Wyoming, for which the match counted, to-3-2. The match was an exhibition for the Tigers, who open the regular season Saturday against Shorter at the Vaughan Tennis Complex on the UWA campus.

"It was a great day of tennis against a very good team," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "We had chances in a several matches and will get better from this experience."

The doubles belonged to Wyoming with Lucia Malinak and Maria Oreshkina defeating Sarah Manseri and Heden Ly, 6-4, at the No. 1 spot. At both No. 2 and 3 doubles, the Cowgirl duos of Ana Fernandez and Sophie
Zehender and Mihaela Kaftanova and Ida Krause both won 6-2.

Zehender won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3 over the Manseri at the No. 1 singles spot before Wyoming won on singles courts 2, 3, 4 and 6. Valeria Arevalo picked up West Alabama lone win at No. 5 singles 6-7, 6-3, 10-7.
